Shivabalayogi in 1950, after about one year of tapas.
Samadhi is an indescribable state of pure consciousness, pure
awareness. In deeper levels of samadhi, there is no mind and no
ordinary consciousness of the body, physical surroundings, or time.
Shivabalayogi meditated in samadhi for at least twenty-three hours every day for
eight years. He would return to ordinary consciousness at midnight.
He would wash himself, perhaps take a glass of milk as his only nourishment, then return to his
meditation.
