Light Body
Photo Gallery
Sukshma sharira
(literally, the subtle particle body) may be translated as light body,
subtle body, astral body, and soul. Swamiji would explain that yogis can
project any number of different astral bodies, some unseen, others that
appear and act quite physical in form.
“The guru comes to
you in his astral body and he talks to you.”
“Swamiji’s astral
bodies are flying just like an airplane flies from India to America. He
flies from there to your heart. Whenever you pray for Swamiji, he will come
and be in front of you and hold you in his arms.”

The best known light body photograph of Shivabalayogi was taken on the day before his body was interred in the Samadhi at Adivarapupeta on Apriil 2, 1994. The light body is so prominant, Shri Swamiji's body behind is hardly visible. Taken at the Bangalore ashram on the day Shri Swamiji consecrated the Brahma Vishnu Maheshwara temple. The photo shows a bright light body in front of the asana, the seat when Shri Swamiji is sitting and giving darshan. Light body apperas in this photo taken as Swamiji leaves the meditation hall to come down the steps towards the Brahma Vishu Maheshwara temple. Shri Swamiji is at the bottom of the steps that lead down from the front of the meditation hall at the Bangalore ashram. Also taken at the bottom on the stairs from the meditation hall as a devotee pranams after garlanding Shivabalayogi. Shivabalayogi is giving darshan in the living room at the house where he stayed in London. Note the shadow cast by the light body. Taken during the studio recording of "Om Guru Sharanam", the extended bhajan in honor of Shivabalayogi. The light body is visible on the right edge of the photo. The photo is of the pujari (priest) and devotee who are in the pit that was dug for the northeast corner of the new temple at the Adivarapupeta ashram. Swamiji is sitting to the top right, outside the view of the camera. Light bodies as if emanating from Shri Swamiji's head towards the foundation being laid that is in the pit in front of him, and towards the temple sanctuary that is to his right, outside the field of this photo. The photo is of the darshan room, now the Samadhi, of the ashram building at the Adivarapupeta ashram. The camera is poking between the iron bars of the window, which is the white, horizontal bar across the bottom of the image. However, the vertical light on the left is a light body. Photograph of the statue of Shivabalayogi that is consecrated over his Samadhi, the tomb where his body is buried. The light body and the shadow it casts are very clearly visible. Photograph of Ardhanarishwara Swami, the linga that Shivabalayogi consecrated on the spot where he sat for almost ten of his twelve-year tapas. Photo taken inside the sanctuary of the temple in Adivarapupeta. Ardhanareshwara linga is to the left, outside the field of the camera. One of several photographs taken by R.C. Nanda that revealed jyotis (astral lights) and were taken in Adivarapupeta over Navaratri of 1999, the Nine Nights of the Divine Mother that are celebrated in late September or October. The photo is of a statue of Swamiji that is kept inside the temple, just to the left outside the inner sanctuary. Only the jyoti appears. The statue is not visible. Photo of the idol of Parvati Devi taken inside the sanctuary of the temple at the Adivarapupeta ashram. The idol is fully covered by the jyoti. This photo was taken in the garden area of the ashram that is between the front of the temple and the water reservoir. On the Dashera day of Navaratri, puja is being done by the water, but the jyoti covers the devotees. Note the elegantly shaped light orb towards the bottom of the image. Also taken during puja by the reservoir on on Dashera. There is a soft, horizontal jyoti streak on the bottom left of the image. Also taken during the puja by the ashram's water reservoir on Dashera. The jyoti is along the left margin of the photo. Photograph of devotees sitting in front of the ashram building that is now the Samadhi. In front of the Samadhi. A ribbon of light is visible on the right. In front of the Samadhi. The ribbon of light has extended towards the girl. Jyoti almost completely covers Ardhanarishwara Swami, the linga that Shivabalayogi installed in 1962 on the place when he sat for almost ten of his twelve years of tapas. Note the light on the bottom edge of the image. This photo was taken on the first occasion that abhishekam (ritual washing) was done to the murthy (statue) of Shivabalayogi.
This is the same murthy whose image is used on this website. Photo taken inside the temple. This murthy (statue) of Shivabalayogi is kept to the left (south) of the inner sanctuary. Patterns that appear to be shakti (spiritual energy) in a photo taken at Blue Ewe Studio on Whidbey Island, Washington, U.S.A.
during the recording of Shivabalayogi bhajans for the collection, "Bhajan Bhakti." Taken on the same occasion at Blue Ewe Studio, a light body or shakti appears on the right side of the photo.
The Shivabalayogi bhajan collection, "Bhajan Bhakti" is now available.
The best known light body photograph of Shivabalayogi was taken on the day before his body was interred in the Samadhi at Adivarapupeta on Apriil 2, 1994. The light body is so prominant, Shri Swamiji's body behind is hardly visible.
